ButtonCollector's Reading Room

Just Getting Started
by: Friendly Boy

If you just joined, and just feel overwhelmed by all the buttons and links, fret not my friend. Fret not. After reading this, you'll feel in total control. NuTANG is extremely easy to use, yet there is still a ton you can do. So, sit back, relax, grab a lemonade, and afterwards, play some ball.

What's first

After you log in, you will always be taken to the "home" page. There, you will find the latest news, and a quirky shoutbox on the right. Introduce yourself on it if you're new.

The NuTROL pages

The green bar beneath the orange "nuTang" logo contains links to the NuTROL pages.
  1. Account Info. Go here to change your name, email address, and/or password.
  2. Customization. No need to come up with hacks. Here, with full control of your header/footer, you can make your site look exactly like how you want. If you have any questions, design or coding-wise, just post them up on the forums. You should also read this cascading style sheets thread, since customization on NuTANG is primarily driven by CSS.
  3. Notes. Members can send each other notes through a form on their profile page. Check the notes people have sent to you here.
  4. Extra+. The lovely miscellaneous features: AIM-blog, memo-pad, etc.
  5. Weblog Here is where you create new or edit old weblog entries. Also, you create/edit left modules here. NuM0DS, which are prebuilt modules, can be added by simply creating a left module and clicking one of the NuM0D icons on the left side. Your weblog and modules show up on your member home page.
  6. Profile. After you join, you should complete this page first. This is an easy way for people to get to know you.
  7. Publish Writing. In addition to publishing journal entries, you can also publish longer pieces of writing. Some people use this to publish their poems, interesting articles they found, stories, etc.
  8. Guestbook. Members can sign each other's guestbooks. Moderate the entries here.
  9. My Page. Finished playing around? Go here to check out your page. Remember, you also have a shortened url at "members.nutang.com/you."

More of what there is to know.

When you visit someone's page, navigation through it is on the blue strip (right below the green NuTROL strip). There is a link to save him or her as a friend on their "profile" page. Be sure to leave your mark. Comment on an entry or sign the guestbook. You can also send other members notes, also accomplished via the "profile" page.

Marketing & such

Ok, so you've spent countless hours fidgeting with your page and adding weblog entries. You want to make friends!

To start off, make a post in the shoutbox every now and then. Since everyone must pass by the home page, they will see your name and possibly check out your page. Furthermore, put a link to your page in your AIM profile, or on some websites. Also, be lively on the forums!

Everyone on NuTANG is friendly. (Yea right! No, no, I'm serious.) Before you know it, you'll be swimming in a sea of happiness, still sipping some lemonade, and maybe having some parfait.

Life is just that swell in NuTANG.
